Supporting the new parents in your life
A workshop for grandparents
Becoming a grandparent is huge. It can feel even more intense than becoming a parent, but this time you’ve got a different role and responsibilities. Support the new family in your life with advice, updates, and a refresher in hands-on baby care.
“I very much enjoyed Andrea’s workshop. She is very knowledgeable and very clearly explained what has changed in the field of looking after babies and why. She demonstrated some safe techniques and let us practice on a baby model … I enjoyed the refresher and learned some new things.”

‘I recently attended a 'Babycare and Grandparenting Course' run by Andrea and found it engaging and helpful. In this day and age there are many differences in parenting than when I was a parent so it was great to look at some of those differences and how to be a valuable support to our adult children and grandchildren without stepping on any toes. Andrea's course looked at new ideas on feeding children that are current, our role as grandparents, what we have to bring and how to be a support. She also gave us some hands on experience with a lifelike baby doll to instill confidence as some of us have not handled babies in a very long time. One of the techniques she introduced us to was the Bobath method , a gentle and easy way of handling babies especially newborns. I wish I had known this technique with my own babies. It would've given me a lot more confidence. Andrea has an easy relaxed way with people that immediately engenders trust. She is approachable, values your input and has an engaging teaching style. I highly recommend this course for anyone who is or is soon to become a grandparent.'

The workshop experience
In the two-hour workshop we’ll cover three topics to help you care for the new family in your life.
1. Supporting new parents
As you become a grandparent, your child becomes a parent. New parents need to find their own way, so it’s important to be accepting of their values and ideas, even if they’re different to your own. We’ll look at how you can support new parents in a gentle, mindful way.
2. Safe, gentle baby care
Make your grandchild feel secure, keep them safe, and support their development. Learn techniques to make lifting, changing, dressing, feeding, and bathing your grandchild easier and more fun for you both.
I’m big on hands-on learning, because it’s the best way to master new skills, so once I’ve showed and explained something to you, I’ll get you to do it yourself using lifelike baby dolls.
3. An update on baby care best practice
Baby care best practice may have changed a bit since you had your kids. So, we’ll do a refresher on handy things like safe sleeping, feeding solids, and any other skills you’d like a quick update on.
I keep workshops small, so there’s plenty of time to talk about your experience of becoming a grandparent, ask questions, and compare notes with other new grandparents.
